Mohanganj municipality’s Juba Dal affiliate has expelled joint convener Mohan Talukdar following allegations that he raped a 10-year-old girl, leaving her pregnant. The expulsion was announced Wednesday morning in a formal notification signed by municipal convenor Md. Rafiqul Islam and member secretary Nazmul Huda Khan, citing Talukdar’s involvement in activities that violate party discipline.
The decision followed an emergency meeting held Tuesday night, shortly after reports of the abuse surfaced in the media. According to local police and party sources, the victim’s parents are daily wage laborers who were away working when the incident took place. The complaint alleges that Talukdar entered the child’s home last December and raped her, subsequently threatening to kill her if she disclosed the assault.
The victim kept the trauma hidden until March 12, when she fell ill and physical changes became evident. After questioning, the girl recounted the assault to her mother, and subsequent medical examinations confirmed the child was pregnant.
The victim’s mother filed a formal complaint in court on April 28. Following a hearing, the court ordered local police to register a case, which was officially recorded on May 2. While the case has been initiated, police have yet to apprehend Talukdar.
Expressing the family’s grief and demand for justice, the mother stated that the suspect has destroyed her daughter’s life and insisted on exemplary punishment. Meanwhile, Mohanganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hafizul Islam confirmed that law enforcement remains actively engaged in a search for the suspect and expects to make an arrest soon.
