Allegation of threatening the plaintiff to withdraw the rape case in Netrakona, the family demands the arrest of the accused

An allegation has been made of threatening the plaintiff to withdraw the case of rape of a girl (15) in Kalmakanda, Netrakona. The police have not yet arrested the only accused in the case. The girl’s family is suffering from fear and insecurity. The family members demanded quick arrest of the accused.

Accused Jahangir Alam’s (23) house is in Nazirpur Union of Kalmakanda Upazila.

Talking to the local residents, the police and the victim’s family, it is said that the girl was alone at home on the morning of May 14. His two brothers went to Madrasah and father went to Haor to harvest paddy. Mother was his father’s house. On this occasion, the accused Jahangir Alam entered the house at around 7:30 in the morning and closed the door. Later, he tied the girl’s hands and face with a towel and forcibly raped her. That afternoon, the girl’s mother filed a case against women and children under the Prevention of Torture Act at the Kalmakanda police station, making Jahangir Alam the sole accused. The police could not arrest the accused until 4:30 pm on Thursday.

The girl’s mother alleged that the police did not arrest the accused. The defendants are threatening to withdraw the case. They are suffering from insecurity. He said, ‘I am a poor man. Jahangir destroyed my daughter. Now his people are threatening to drop the case along with offering compromise settlement. After the case, initially the police went to the area and inquired, but later no progress was seen. I am very afraid of this. I want exemplary punishment for him.

When the accused called Jahangir Alam and his father’s mobile phone to inquire about this, it was closed.

Investigating officer of the case, Deputy Inspector (SI) Noor Alam of Kalmakanda police station said, “The accused is absconding since the incident. Police are trying to arrest him. We are not informed of any threats or pressure to compromise the plaintiffs. Hopefully, it will be possible to quickly bring the accused under the law.
