Police Arrest Four in Mymensingh Beheading Murder Case Over Extramarital Affair Allegations

Mymensingh police have arrested four individuals in connection with the gruesome murder of 25-year-old Sohel Sarkar, whose decapitated body was discovered six days after he went missing. The suspects, taken into custody following a series of raids across Bhaluka and Mymensingh, were presented before a local court on Sunday.

The arrested suspects have been identified by authorities as Md. Salim Mia, the alleged mastermind of the plot, alongside Abdul Kadir, also known as Al Amin, Md. Salim, and Lal Chan. According to Mohammad Shibirul Islam, officer-in-charge of the Kotwali Model Police Station, the investigation revealed that the murder was a premeditated act fueled by personal vendetta.

Investigators believe the primary motive was an illicit relationship between the victim and the second wife of the main accused, Salim Mia. Police state that Salim had discovered the two were living together in Dhaka for several months and subsequently orchestrated a plan to lure the victim back to Mymensingh.

Sohel Sarkar disappeared on the night of July 16, prompting his family to file a missing person report. The case took a macabre turn on July 22, when police recovered a severed head near the Ambikaganj College grounds, followed by the discovery of a headless, buried torso nearby. The family later identified the remains as those of the missing man.

Following the discovery, the victim’s father filed a formal murder and evidence-tampering case against unknown individuals. Using intelligence gathered through digital surveillance and investigative leads, police apprehended the four suspects on Saturday night.

During interrogation, the primary suspect reportedly confessed to calling Sohel from Dhaka under false pretenses. Once the victim arrived, the four men allegedly intercepted him, carried out the killing, and attempted to hide the evidence by decapitating the body and burying the remains. Police have since recovered the machete and shovel used in the crime, along with blood-stained clothing and sandals belonging to the suspects.
