Ganesha found three young men in the village, thinking it was gold, they cut it and shared it

A metal Ganesha idol was found in Ganipur village of Sonamukhi union of Akkelpur upazila of Jaipurhat. It has been alleged that three teenagers cut the golden idol weighing about one kg as ‘gold’ and divided it among themselves. After the incident became known, curiosity, mystery and various speculations spread throughout the village.
According to local sources, Saju Hossain, the son of Akram Hossain of Ganipur village, along with his friends Minhaj and Rabbani, went to pick gab fruit in the forest near a pavilion near the house on Wednesday afternoon. While coming down from the tree, Saju’s feet felt something hard metallic under the ground. Later three friends dug the ground and recovered a golden Ganesha idol.

At first keeping the matter a secret, the three friends begin to dream of becoming rich from the idea that the statue might be made of gold. Later, after washing the idol in pond water, Saju takes it home. There, three friends cut off the head and ears of the idol with a hack blade and shared it. On Friday morning, Sajur’s family members went to the house of Minhaj and Rabbani and demanded the return of the cut part, the whole incident spread in the village. After that, hundreds of people rushed to the spot.
According to locals, Minhaj and Rabbani kept the head and one ear of the statue for themselves. Another ear and main body part was with Saju. Later Saju’s elder brother Sajeev left the house with the rest of the statue. Since then, his mobile phone has been switched off, adding to the mystery surrounding the incident.

Saju Hossain says, “We brought the idol home as it looked heavy and felt like iron.” Then I think it is gold and divide it into parts. Later, the family members came to know about it.” He further said, ‘My elder brother went out with the main part of the idol. Maybe it is gold or not, it has to be tested. Since then, his phone is found to be switched off.
Raju, a resident of Ganipur village, said that when the matter spread in the village this morning, there was a huge uproar in the village. The statue is believed to be old or made of precious metal. Again it may be archaeologically important.
Local UP member Sardar Ayanal Hossain said that three teenagers found a Ganesha idol while going to the village. There is a lot of noise in the area. Without testing it is not possible to say for sure whether it is gold or not.
Shaheen Reza, officer-in-charge of Akkelpur police station, said, “Police have been sent to the spot after receiving the news. The statue may have archaeological significance. We are working to rescue it.
