Police arrest woman with 2,500 yaba tablets in Chandpur

Police in Chandpur’s Matlab Dakshin upazila arrested a woman Thursday morning after discovering 2,500 yaba tablets in her possession. The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Khuki Akter, also known as Parveen, was apprehended near the local water tank area at approximately 11 a.m.
Acting on intelligence that a drug shipment was being transported on a microbus traveling from Baburhat to Dhaka via Comilla’s Gouripur, law enforcement officers established a strategic checkpoint. Upon the vehicle’s arrival, the suspect attempted to flee on foot while clutching a plastic bag. Police successfully intercepted her following a brief pursuit.
Upon searching the bag, officers recovered the narcotics. According to Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the Matlab Dakshin Police Station, preliminary investigations indicate that Akter is a member of an inter-district drug trafficking ring. Authorities noted that she is already the subject of an existing narcotics case filed at the Comilla Sadar Police Station.
A new case has been registered against the suspect under the Narcotics Control Act at the Matlab Dakshin Police Station. She is currently in custody and is being processed for appearance before the court.
