Mahila Parishad calls for gender sensitive budgeting for economic empowerment of women

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad has called for increased ‘gender’ sensitive allocation to ensure economic empowerment of women in the next national budget. Last Thursday, the representatives of the organization called on the minister in a courtesy meeting with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

This information was informed in the press release of the organization on Sunday.

During the meeting, the delegation presented to the Finance Minister the recommendations from the pre-budget round table meeting titled ‘Possibilities and Challenges of Women’s Economic Empowerment: Budget Towards Women’s Economic Empowerment’. Recommendations are on existing challenges in women’s economic empowerment, employment generation, social security and taking effective measures to prevent violence against women.

At this time, the finance minister assured to seriously consider the recommendations presented. He also assured to give importance to women’s economic empowerment and prevention of violence in the next national budget and make necessary allocations in this sector.
