Saudi accident victim Murads body repatriated 15 days after death

The body of Murad Sheikh, a 34-year-old Bangladeshi construction worker who died in a road accident in Saudi Arabia, returned to his village home in Rajbari, Bangladesh, on Saturday, 15 days after his death. His remains arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka early Saturday morning before being transported to his native Ujanchar Union in Goalanda Upazila. A funeral prayer was held at the Dudukhanpara Hafizia Madrasah grounds at 11 a.m., followed by burial in the local cemetery.
A crowd gathered at Sheikh’s home upon the arrival of his body around 9:30 a.m. His wife, Anjuara Khatun, their 10-month-old son Rezaul Islam, 13-year-old daughter Maisha Khatun, and 6-year-old daughter Meherima were inconsolable, receiving comfort from relatives.

Sheikh had gone to Saudi Arabia a year prior, seeking better economic prospects to support his family. His wife, Anjuara, who is six months pregnant, tearfully recounted his desire to return home to hold his newborn son. She shared his last words of wanting to quickly return and embrace his child.
His eldest daughter, Maisha, recounted a phone call with her father just two hours before the accident. Due to network issues, the conversation was brief, with her father promising to call back. That call never materialized.

Murad Sheikh’s brother, Kawser Hossain, explained that Murad had left a job at a private company in Bangladesh due to low wages. He had gone to Saudi Arabia through another brother who was already working there. Kawser added that the company where Murad worked in Saudi Arabia provided no assistance following the accident. The repatriation of his body was facilitated through the personal funding of a Saudi-based expatriate named Hussain from Goalanda and the support of the Bangladesh Embassy.
Another brother, Golam Mostofa, stated that Murad was the sole breadwinner for his family. His death has left his wife and three young children in a state of extreme vulnerability, prompting an appeal for governmental and non-governmental assistance.
