Prime Minister Tareque Rahman met with Tahsin Abdullah at the Secretariat on Wednesday, offering a moment of solace to the young student who had lost his smile following the tragic death of his elder sister. The meeting, arranged after a photograph of the boy went viral, marked a poignant encounter between the nation’s leader and a child whose resilience has captured public attention.
The story began on July 27 at the “Notun Kuri Sports 2025-26” closing ceremony held at the Bangladesh Army Stadium. Amidst thousands of children, a photograph of Tahsin—wearing his school uniform and reaching out to the Prime Minister with a radiant, joyful expression—circulated widely on social media. While the image suggested pure happiness, it masked a profound grief.

In July 2025, a fighter jet crashed into Milestone School, where Tahsin was a sixth-grade student. His elder sister, Tasnia, who was in the eighth grade, was killed in the incident. On that day, a young Tahsin, having heard the blast, had rushed to find his sister, carrying water and saline in hopes of helping her. He waited in vain, and following the tragedy, his family noted that the once-vibrant boy stopped smiling, writing in a counseling session that he missed his “best friend” deeply.
The photograph from the Army Stadium was a rare moment of joy for the boy, who is now in the seventh grade. Upon learning of the heartbreaking history behind the smiling face in the picture, Prime Minister Tareque Rahman instructed his office to reach out to the family.

During their meeting at the Prime Minister’s office, accompanied by his father Nazmul Haque, Tahsin shared his aspirations of becoming a successful businessman who could contribute to the welfare of others. The Prime Minister praised the boy’s ambition, encouraging him to focus on his studies and athletics while pursuing his goals with dedication.
As a gesture of encouragement, the Prime Minister presented Tahsin with a signed basketball and a drone set. The young student, expressing his delight at the unexpected meeting, shared his eagerness to return to school and recount the experience to his friends. The Prime Minister also extended his heartfelt condolences to Tahsin’s father for the tragic loss of his daughter. The meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials from the Prime Minister’s office and representatives from the organization “Amra BNP Poribar.”
