Khulna University forms probe committee to investigate teachers over alleged links to secret plot for Sheikh Hasina return

Khulna University (KU) administration has formed a five-member investigation committee to determine if any faculty members are involved in clandestine efforts to facilitate the return of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The directive follows reports that the ousted leader’s party, currently banned from political activity, may be orchestrating a campaign to return to power.
The official order, signed by acting Registrar Professor S.M. Mahbubur Rahman on Monday, confirms that the investigation was prompted by recent media reports suggesting that 404 teachers from 22 public universities across Bangladesh are allegedly participating in a covert initiative to bring Sheikh Hasina back to the country.
The probe committee is chaired by the Dean of the School of Science, Engineering and Technology, with the Director of Students’ Affairs serving as member secretary. Additional members include the deans of the School of Education, the School of Law, and the School of Social Sciences. The committee has been instructed to conclude its inquiry and submit a comprehensive report within one month.
Professor Md. Salauddin, the committee’s member secretary and the university’s Director of Students’ Affairs, confirmed receiving the notification. He noted that while the committee has not yet convened, the chairperson is expected to call an inaugural meeting shortly to begin the process.
This development follows similar measures taken by other major public institutions, including Dhaka University, Rajshahi University, Jagannath University, Islamic University, and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. These investigations were initiated to address allegations ranging from the covert activities to restore the ousted regime to assertions that certain faculty members actively opposed the student-led mass uprising in July.
