Prothom Alo and bKash award prizes to Football Sigma quiz winners

Five mega-winners of the “Football Sigma” quiz competition, held during the FIFA World Cup, received their prizes at a ceremony held Tuesday at the Prothom Alo office in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka. The event, organized by the media outlet in collaboration with the mobile financial service provider bKash, awarded two e-bikes, two LED televisions, and an iPhone 17 Pro Max to the top participants.

Sajjad Hossain from Dhaka and Raisul Kabir from Chattogram received e-bikes, while Rebeka Akter from Manikganj and Farhad Ahmed from Mymensingh were awarded LED televisions. The grand prize, an iPhone 17 Pro Max, went to Md. Faruk Mia from Cumilla, who secured the highest points throughout the tournament.

The prizes were presented by senior officials from bKash and Prothom Alo, including bKash Chief Financial Officer Moinuddin Mohammed Rahgir, Executive Vice President and Head of Digital Assets and Communications Ishtiaque Shahriar, and Prothom Alo Head of Online Shawkat Hossain, Chief Sports Editor Utpal Shuvro, and Chief Digital Business Officer ABM Jabed Sultan.

Addressing the audience, Moinuddin Mohammed Rahgir stated that the campaign aimed to celebrate the World Cup enthusiasm among Generation Z, noting the massive participation from youth throughout the tournament. Ishtiaque Shahriar emphasized the integrity of the competition, explaining that the strict time-bound format ensured that winners possessed genuine knowledge of football.

Prothom Alo officials highlighted the scope of the event, with Shawkat Hossain describing it as one of the largest quiz competitions globally. ABM Jabed Sultan noted that the initiative was among the most ambitious sports-related projects undertaken by the organization in its 26-year history. Reflecting on his win, Md. Faruk Mia admitted he was initially skeptical of the notification but confirmed its authenticity through official channels, calling it a memorable experience.

The Football Sigma competition spanned 39 days, during which the website recorded over 3 million visitors and 160,522 registered users. Participants played the quiz a total of 407,382 times, generating more than 500 million digital impressions. Throughout the tournament, daily leaders were awarded cash prizes via bKash, with 429 winners recognized for their performance on individual leaderboards.
