Mother arrested for allegedly murdering infant son in Ramu

RAMU, Cox’s Bazar – Police have arrested a 23-year-old mother on suspicion of murdering her two-month-old son with a sharp weapon in the Rajarkul Union of Ramu Upazila on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:00 a.m. in the Chowkidarpara area of Ward No. 4. The victim, identified as Rayan Ahmed, was the son of Abdul Malek, who has been working in Malaysia for an extended period.
According to local law enforcement, Romana Akter allegedly took the infant into a room and used a sharp knife to slit his throat. Neighbors alerted the police, who arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and took the suspect into custody.
Ramu Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monirul Islam Bhuiyan confirmed the incident. Regarding the suspect’s condition, the OC stated that family members have claimed Romana Akter suffers from mental health issues and had previously undergone medical treatment. Authorities emphasized that these claims remain subject to formal investigation and medical evaluation.
The child’s body has been sent to the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. A murder case has been filed at the Ramu Police Station, and the suspect remains in police custody.
