Border Guard Bangladesh Seizes Contraband Worth Over Two Billion Taka in July Operations

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized contraband goods worth approximately 2.03 billion taka during anti-smuggling operations conducted across the country’s border regions throughout July. The paramilitary force confirmed the seizures in a press statement issued on Tuesday, noting that 191 individuals have been arrested in connection with these smuggling activities.
The recovered items represent a vast array of illicit goods, including 4.25 kilograms of gold, 216 diamond nose pins, and 7.93 kilograms of silver. Consignments of clothing and personal goods were also intercepted, comprising 13,063 sarees, 2,710 three-piece suits, blankets and bedspreads, 8,886 ready-made garments, 2,416 meters of fabric, and 15,527 pieces of imitation jewelry. Authorities additionally seized 302,394 cosmetic items, 864,356 firecrackers, and significant quantities of commodities including sugar, tea leaves, garlic, cumin, and fertilizer, alongside 1,751 cubic feet of timber and over 221 metric tons of coal.
Logistics and hardware equipment seized during the month included 624 mobile phones, 4,360 phone displays, 36,170 mobile components, 20,000 pieces of medical equipment, and various optical and personal care items. The BGB further reported the seizure of a wide range of transport vehicles, including 12 trucks and covered vans, eight pickups, three private cars, 55 CNG-run vehicles and auto-rickshaws, 59 motorcycles, and 127 boats.
In terms of security threats, the BGB recovered nine pistols of local and foreign origin, one rifle, five magazines, 60 rounds of ammunition, and seven additional weapons. Efforts to counter narcotics trafficking resulted in the recovery of over 2.11 million Yaba tablets, two kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, and substantial amounts of heroin, Phensedyl, foreign liquor, beer, and cannabis, alongside various sedatives and illicit medical supplies. The seizures also included 1.07 kilograms of snake venom and nine pieces of touchstone.
Regarding border security enforcement, 115 individuals were detained for illegal border crossings, including 31 Bangladeshi nationals, three Indian citizens, and 81 Myanmar nationals. All detainees have been processed in accordance with legal procedures.
