Government assigns 30 ministers and officials to oversee administration and development across all 64 districts

The Cabinet Division has assigned 30 ministers, state ministers, and government whips to oversee and coordinate administrative activities across Bangladesh’s 64 districts. The directive, issued on Thursday, aims to strengthen governance, improve law and order, and curb corruption and drug trafficking at the local level.
According to the official notification, these appointments follow revelations of widespread corruption and embezzlement of development funds during the previous administration. The government noted that significant portions of public funds were laundered abroad or diverted to activities detrimental to social stability and national security. The current initiative seeks to restore accountability, transparency, and good governance in accordance with Article 55(2) of the Constitution and the relevant rules of procedure.
Under the new distribution, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud has been tasked with overseeing Rajshahi and Natore, while Abu Jafar Md. Zahid Hossain will handle Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, and Panchagarh. Abdul Awal Mintoo is assigned to Lakshmipur, Nitai Roy Chowdhury to Chuadanga, and Khandaker Abdul Muktadir to Habiganj. Ariful Haque Chowdhury has been given responsibility for Moulvibazar, Md. Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie for Chattogram, and M. Rashiduzzaman Millat for Sherpur, Mymensingh, and Netrokona. Asadul Habib Dulu will oversee Thakurgaon and Dinajpur, while Md. Asaduzzaman takes charge of Khulna, Satkhira, and Bagerhat.
Additional assignments include Zakaria Taher for Feni and Noakhali; Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain Bokul for Manikganj and Munshiganj; Saching Pru for Cox’s Bazar; and Md. Shariful Alam for Tangail and Narsingdi. Shama Obaid Islam is assigned to Madaripur and Shariatpur; Anindyo Islam Amit to Meherpur, Kushtia, and Jhenaidah; Abdul Bari to Bogura and Chapainawabganj; and Sultan Salauddin to Dhaka.
The three hill districts of Khagrachhari, Bandarban, and Rangamati are under the charge of Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin. Habibur Rashid will oversee Gazipur and Narayanganj; Md. Rajib Ahsan will manage Barguna, Patuakhali, and Pirojpur; and Mir Shahe Alam is assigned to Rangpur, Gaibandha, and Kurigram. Farzana Sharmin will handle Sirajganj and Pabna, while Sheikh Faridul Islam oversees Jashore, Magura, and Narail. Imran Khan Chowdhury is assigned to Jamalpur and Kishoreganj, and Ahmed Sohel Manjur to Barishal, Bhola, and Jhalokathi. Mohammad Shamim Kaiser will manage Joypurhat and Naogaon; Md. G.K. Gaus is responsible for Sylhet and Sunamganj; Mia Nuruddin Ahmed will oversee Rajbari, Faridpur, and Gopalganj; and A.B.M. Ashraf Uddin (Nijan) is assigned to Brahmanbaria, Cumilla, and Chandpur.
The designated officials are authorized to provide guidance to local government offices on maintaining law and order, preventing drug abuse, curbing smuggling, and suppressing organized crime. Furthermore, they will supervise the implementation of government development projects, including poverty reduction, job creation, and social safety net programs, with the authority to participate in relevant district-level meetings to ensure effective administrative coordination.
