Bangladesh explores aviation collaboration and technology transfer with AirAsia to boost operational efficiency

Bangladesh is seeking to enhance its aviation sector by pursuing technology transfers and operational partnerships with AirAsia to improve low-cost airline services, airport efficiency, digitalization, and aircraft maintenance. A high-level delegation, led by State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat, held discussions regarding these initiatives at the AirAsia Group headquarters, known as RedQ, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Bangladeshi delegation included Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, and Monjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Malaysia.

AirAsia Group CEO Bo Lingam welcomed the representatives and briefed them on the airline’s business and operational models. The discussions focused on identifying potential areas for collaboration in aviation management and the exchange of industry best practices. Lingam noted that the group is proud to share its expertise across the aviation value chain, expressing hope that the engagement will foster knowledge exchange and create opportunities for technology transfer between the two nations.

During an executive briefing, AirAsia management detailed their low-cost carrier (LCC) model, emphasizing the necessity of supportive policy frameworks and operational environments to ensure sustainable growth. The technical discussions covered network and fleet strategy, airport efficiency, rapid aircraft turnaround times, and measures to reduce operational costs, all aimed at making air travel more affordable and accessible.

The delegation also conducted a site visit to Terminal 2 of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, where they observed the operations of Ground Team Red. The tour highlighted various automated and self-service passenger processing systems, including digital baggage handling technologies designed to streamline passenger flow, optimize aircraft utilization, and enhance overall operational efficiency.
