Narayanganj Court Sets July 1 Deadline for Tanwir Muhammad Taqi Murder Probe Report

A Narayanganj court has set July 1 as the new deadline for police to submit their investigation report in the 2013 murder case of Tanwir Muhammad Twaki, a brilliant student whose death has remained unresolved for over a decade.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Nurul Huda Chowdhury issued the directive on Monday following a hearing. The order comes after the court previously granted a 30-day extension on April 26, following a request from the investigating officer, Additional Superintendent of Police Deepak Chandra Majumder, who cited the need for a thorough inquiry.
Court police inspector Abdus Samad confirmed that seven of the accused—Yusuf Hossain, Kajal Hawlader, Abdullah Al Mamun, Safayet Hossain, Mamun Mia, Yar Mohammad Parvez, and Rifat Hossain—appeared before the court during the proceedings. Two other defendants, Sultan Shawkat and Saleh Rahman Simanto, remain at large.
During the hearing, the plaintiff’s counsel, Advocate Pradip Ghosh, expressed frustration, noting that the investigating officer failed to provide the mandatory update on the progress of the charge sheet. The legal team has formally urged the court to expedite the filing of the charges.
The case has faced significant delays, with Twaki’s father, Rafiur Rabbi, stating that investigative agencies have requested extensions 104 times throughout the process. More than 13 years and three months have passed since the murder without the submission of a final report. Rabbi criticized the ongoing procedural hurdles, specifically pointing to the recent claim by investigators that they are awaiting approval from senior officials to finalize the document, raising concerns about whether bureaucratic processes will continue to stall the pursuit of justice.
