Two tourists found dead after motorcycle plunges into gorge in Bandarban

Authorities in the Bandarban district recovered the bodies of two tourists from a remote mountain ravine on Thursday night after their motorcycle plunged off a steep road in Ruma upazila. The victims, identified as 31-year-old Md. Jamir Uddin and 30-year-old Rokaiya Akter, were discovered near the Papaya Garden area along the Boga Lake-Keokradong road at approximately 11:30 p.m.
The victims were part of a 10-member excursion group that had traveled from the Ruma upazila headquarters toward Boga Lake earlier that afternoon under the guidance of a local tour guide. While eight members of the party successfully returned to Ruma by evening, Uddin and Akter failed to arrive as scheduled. After the tour guide alerted a nearby army camp to the couple’s disappearance, a search operation was launched that eventually led to the discovery of the motorcycle and the bodies at the bottom of the ravine.
Ruma Police Station officer-in-charge Manas Barua stated that investigators believe the motorcycle lost control while navigating the treacherous, high-altitude road, resulting in a fatal fall. Police suspect that high speed on the winding mountain pass may have contributed to the accident.
The remains have been transported to Bandarban Sadar Hospital to undergo post-mortem examinations. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
