Nursing student found dead in Dhaka dormitory

Police recovered the hanging body of a 19-year-old nursing student from a dormitory in the Kalabagan area of the capital on Friday morning. The victim, Pinky Biswas, was a first-year student at the private Anwar Khan Modern Nursing College located near Mirpur Road.
Sub-Inspector Liza Akter of Kalabagan Police Station reported that authorities were alerted by the building owner at approximately 8:00 a.m. Upon arriving at the dormitory on Crescent Road, officers forced entry into the student’s room, where they discovered her body suspended from a ceiling fan by a green scarf.
Investigators noted that the deceased, who hailed from the Ujirpur upazila of Barishal, resided in a ground-floor unit of the five-story dormitory. Although the room typically accommodated three students, the other two occupants were away on holiday at the time of the incident.
Preliminary investigations lead police to suspect that the death was a suicide. The body has been transferred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination to confirm the cause of death.
