Three killed in head-on collision between bus and dump truck in Chandpur

Three people were killed and at least 15 others injured following a head-on collision between a sand-laden dump truck and a passenger bus on the Chandpur-Cumilla regional highway Tuesday morning. The accident occurred at approximately 8:00 a.m. in the Baniacho area of the Shahrashti Upazila in Chandpur.

The collision involved a dump truck traveling toward Cumilla and an Al-Arafah bus headed toward Hajiganj from Dinajpur, leaving the bus severely mangled. Authorities confirmed that the three individuals who died at the scene were the driver of the dump truck, 40-year-old Abdul Wahab, the bus driver, 35-year-old Kamal from Gaibandha, and the bus conductor, 30-year-old Shobhan from Bagerhat.

Emergency crews from the Shahrashti Fire Service arrived at the scene shortly after the crash and spent an hour conducting rescue operations. While many of the injured were transported to Cumilla Medical College Hospital with the assistance of local residents, fire service personnel rescued three passengers in critical condition and transferred them to the Shahrashti Upazila Health Complex.

Dr. Aklima Jahan, an official at the Shahrashti Upazila Health Complex, stated that the victims suffered from significant blood loss, necessitating their immediate transfer to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for advanced medical care.

Shahrashti Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mir Mahbubur Rahman confirmed that the three bodies have been recovered and taken to the station. Police have seized both the bus and the truck involved in the incident.
