Mysterious Explosion Rocks Barishal District Judge Court Premises

A mysterious explosion occurred inside the main gate of the Barishal District Judge Court on Wednesday morning, triggering widespread panic among litigants, lawyers, and court staff. The incident took place between 10:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. while judicial proceedings were underway.
Police have yet to confirm the nature of the blast. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) crime scene unit has collected forensic evidence from the site, including glass shards, plastic fragments, and gunpowder-like residue. Authorities stated that a specialized bomb disposal unit from Dhaka is expected to examine the evidence to determine if an explosive device was used.
In the immediate aftermath, security measures were tightened across the court premises. Law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the site, where investigators observed discolored soil at the epicenter of the blast.
Khalilur Rahman, in charge of the CID crime scene unit, confirmed that his team processed the area and secured physical evidence. Witnesses, including several lawyers present at the scene, initially mistook the loud noise for an exploding electrical transformer or a vehicle tire, only to later discover the site of the detonation near the left side of the entrance.
Barishal Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abu Raihan Muhammad Saleh inspected the scene following the incident. Deputy Commissioner of Police Sushanta Sarkar emphasized that an investigation is currently underway and that the nature of the explosion would only be determined once the final report is completed.
While officials are cautious about labeling the incident a bombing, the event follows a separate explosion on August 3 in Dudhalmau village of Bakerganj Upazila, which left one child and two women severely injured. Preliminary investigations into the Bakerganj incident determined that the device involved was not a cocktail bomb.
