Three children drown in pond in Jashore Bagharpara Upazila

Three children, including two sisters, drowned in a pond in Jamdia village under the Jamdia Union of Bagharpara Upazila, Jessore, on Friday afternoon.
The victims have been identified as 13-year-old Lamia Akter and 10-year-old Sultana Akter, both daughters of Nichar Ali, and 10-year-old Fahima Khatun, daughter of Ashikur Rahman. Lamia was a sixth-grade student, while Sultana and Fahima were in the fourth and third grades, respectively.
Family members stated that the three children went to a pond owned by Fahima’s grandfather, Ekram Molla, at approximately 12:00 p.m. to bathe. The pond is situated within a garden area and is rarely used by local residents. Upon reaching the site, the children left their sandals and clothing on the bank before entering the water.
Abdur Rouf, the grandfather of Lamia and Sultana, noted that when the children failed to return home after an extended period, family members initiated a search. Upon arriving at the pond, relatives discovered the children’s discarded belongings on the bank but found no trace of the girls. During a subsequent search of the water, the lifeless bodies of all three children were recovered.
The victims were rushed to the Bagharpara Upazila Health Complex, where attending physicians declared them dead.
Officer-in-Charge of Bagharpara Police Station, Shah Jalal Alam, confirmed the incident and stated that formal legal proceedings are currently underway.
