Retired Engineer Dies While Addressing Parents at Rajshahi Government City College Event

A 65-year-old man died after collapsing while addressing a parents’ assembly at Rajshahi Government City College on Sunday.
Mohammad Shahjahan Ali, a retired engineer from the Rural Electrification Board, was attending the event as a guardian for his grandson when the incident occurred at approximately 12:00 p.m. Witnesses reported that Ali suddenly slumped over while speaking at the podium. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where attending physicians declared him dead.
The college had organized the assembly for parents of higher secondary students, which began at 11:15 a.m. in the institution’s conference room. College officials, including Principal Elias Uddin, Vice-Principal Monir Uddin Ahmed, and Secretary of the Teachers’ Council Professor Bayezid Bostami, were present at the event. Following the medical emergency, the gathering was concluded in a condensed format.
Imdadul Haque, Ali’s son-in-law and a lecturer at Bheramara Government Women’s College, stated that his father-in-law had a history of heart complications and had previously undergone bypass surgery. Haque explained that Ali had been residing in a rented house in Rajshahi to support his grandson’s education and regularly attended school functions on his behalf.
Ali, whose ancestral home was in Mirpur, Kushtia, had been living in the Mangalbaria area of Kushtia Sadar before relocating temporarily to Rajshahi. The retired engineer divided his time between Kushtia, Dhaka, and Rajshahi.
