Seven Bangladeshi Migrant Workers From Naogaon Killed in Saudi Arabia Sofa Factory Fire

Seven Bangladeshi expatriate workers from the Atrai Upazila of Naogaon district were killed in a fire that broke out at a sofa manufacturing factory in the Manfouha district of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment confirmed the fatalities in a condolence message issued on Sunday night.
The victims have been identified as Sumon, 35, and Hasibul Hasan Shuvo, 27, from Dubai village; Mohun Pramanik, 42, Sumun Pramanik, Rubel Hossain, 30, and Koli Pramanik, 35, from Gandagohali village; and Abdul Jalil, 38, from Parkasunda village. All the deceased were residents of the Bisha and Kalikapur unions within the Atrai Upazila.
Local administration officials reported that the victims had been employed at the Riyadh factory after migrating from their respective villages in Bangladesh. The fire erupted on Sunday afternoon. Atrai Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Moniruzzaman confirmed the death toll on Sunday night, noting that the casualty figures could potentially rise as authorities continue to assess the site.
The Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Ariful Haque Chowdhury, expressed profound shock and grief over the tragedy. In an official statement, the minister described the deaths as a heart-wrenching loss and acknowledged the victims’ significant contributions to the national economy.
The ministry has instructed relevant officials to maintain constant communication with the Bangladesh Embassy in Saudi Arabia and local authorities. Efforts are underway to expedite the repatriation of the victims’ remains, and the government has pledged to ensure all necessary support and compensation for the grieving families.
