Two Killed in Multi-Vehicle Collision on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Habiganj

Two people were killed in a multi-vehicle collision on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in the Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj district on Sunday. The accident occurred around 1:00 p.m. on the Bejura Bridge when a head-on collision between an oil tanker and a sand-laden truck caused the truck to lose control and crash onto a CNG-run autorickshaw.
The victims have been identified as 27-year-old Ripon Mia, a resident of Ratanpur village, and 50-year-old Abul Khayer from the West Madhabpur area. Ripon Mia was reportedly traveling in the truck, while Abul Khayer was a passenger in the autorickshaw. Both individuals died at the scene.
The incident triggered a major traffic disruption on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway, leading to significant gridlock for several hours. Personnel from the Madhabpur Police Station, Shayestaganj Highway Police, and the Fire Service responded to the scene to conduct rescue operations and remove the wreckage. Traffic movement resumed after approximately two and a half hours.
Sub-Inspector Faruk Mia of Madhabpur Police Station confirmed that the secondary collision between the truck and the autorickshaw resulted in the fatalities. The bodies were subsequently transported to the Shayestaganj Highway Police Station for formal processing.
Officer-in-Charge of Shayestaganj Highway Police Station, Shuvo Ranjan Chakma, stated that the bodies are in the process of being handed over to the victims’ families. Authorities have seized the involved vehicles, and legal proceedings in connection with the incident are currently underway.
