The death toll from a toxic gas leak at a shipbreaking yard in Sitakunda, Chittagong, has risen to eight. The incident occurred Friday morning at the Ferdous Steel facility, located in the Station Road area of Bhatiari Union, after a gas cylinder exploded on a scrap vessel.
The government has mandated the retirement of 49 police inspectors, according to a notification issued by the Police-1 branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday. In a separate administrative move, seven additional police officers holding the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police have also been sent into retirement.
