Five Injured in Violent Attack on Krishak Dal Leaders Home in Araihazar

Five people, including two women, were injured following an attack on the residence of a local Krishak Dal leader in Narayanganj’s Araihazar upazila on Friday. The incident, which allegedly involved vandalism and looting, has been linked to an ongoing territorial dispute between local political factions.

The attack occurred around 11:00 a.m. in the Gahordi area of Mahmudpur union. Amir Hossain, brother of the victim Belayet Hossain—who serves as the member secretary of the Mahmudpur Union Krishak Dal—filed a formal complaint with the Araihazar Police Station, naming Shahjahan Shikari, the president of the local ward-level Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), as the primary aggressor.

According to the complaint, a group led by Shikari stormed the residence wielding local weapons. The victims reported that the assailants ransacked multiple rooms, causing approximately 200,000 taka in property damage. Furthermore, the attackers allegedly stole 10 lakh taka in cash and three bhoris of gold jewelry from steel and wooden cabinets within the home.

The two women, identified as Lucky and Rahima, sustained critical injuries and were subsequently transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. The other three injured individuals received medical attention at the Araihazar Upazila Health Complex.

Belayet Hossain stated that the conflict stems from a long-standing power struggle in the area involving Shikari and his associate, Nur Mohammad. He noted that tensions escalated last Tuesday when Shikari’s followers allegedly assaulted his brother, Delwar Hossain, though a case was later filed against Delwar himself. Amir Hossain further alleged that the suspects continue to roam the area with weapons, issuing fresh threats of violence and death against his family.

Shahjahan Shikari has denied all allegations of involvement in the attack, asserting that he was not present at the scene.

Officer-in-Charge of Araihazar Police Station, Ripon Kumar, confirmed that a written complaint has been received. He stated that police are investigating the incident and will take appropriate legal action against those found responsible.
