BADC Storekeeper Arrested in Dinajpur for Illegal Sale of 227 Metric Tons of Fertilizer

Police in Dinajpur have arrested a storekeeper following the illegal sale of approximately 227 metric tons of government-owned fertilizer from a Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) warehouse. The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Md. Aktarul Islam, was taken into custody during a raid conducted on Monday evening.
The operation took place at the BADC government fertilizer warehouse in the Noshipur area of Sadar Upazila, following reports to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer regarding the unauthorized removal of government stock. A team led by the local administration and the Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station executed the raid at approximately 7:30 p.m., resulting in the arrest of Aktarul, a resident of Araji Jugirgopa village in Khansama Upazila.
During preliminary interrogation, Aktarul admitted to selling the fertilizer between July and August without obtaining the necessary approval from senior authorities. He further disclosed that the stock was sold to two contracted BADC dealers: Sohag Hossain, 38, of Birganj Upazila, and Ansarul Islam, 42, of Kaharol Upazila.
BADC officials confirmed that the Noshipur facility houses two warehouses, named Kanchan and Steel, with a combined storage capacity of approximately 18,000 tons. The facilities are used to store MOP, DAP, and TSP fertilizers.
Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Nurnabi stated that the suspect remains in custody as legal proceedings continue. He added that an investigation is underway to determine the involvement of other individuals, promising that further action will be taken against anyone found complicit in the illegal sale of government assets.
