Police launch murder investigation after three family members found dead in Bagerhat home

Police in Bagerhat have opened a murder investigation following the discovery of three bodies inside a residence in Kochua on Tuesday. The victims have been identified as 25-year-old Ahad Hawladar, his 60-year-old mother Monira Begum, and his 93-year-old grandmother, Rashida Begum.
The investigation was launched Wednesday after the family of the victims filed a case against unknown suspects at the local police station. The bodies were recovered from the family’s home in Chanderkola village by local residents, who alerted authorities after discovering the grim scene. Preliminary findings from the autopsies conducted at the Bagerhat District Hospital have been completed, and the remains have since been released to the family for burial.
Family members allege the incident was a premeditated triple homicide. According to the complaint filed by Monira Begum’s eldest son, Faisal Hawladar, the residence was found in disarray, with blood stains visible on furniture, bedding, and the floor. The family also reported that cash and jewelry are missing from the property.
Law enforcement officials believe the victims were killed at least two days before the discovery. Investigators noted that the nature of the injuries suggests the assailants may have used heavy objects, such as hammers or crowbars, while some evidence indicates signs of strangulation.
Kochua Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahamud Hasan stated that while a definitive motive remains elusive, specialized investigative units are working to identify and apprehend those responsible. Police are exploring multiple leads, though they have yet to confirm the exact circumstances of the attack.
Faisal Hawladar, who works in Dhaka, recounted that the last communication with his family occurred Sunday evening. He noted that his grandmother had been visiting the household from the neighboring Sadar upazila when the tragedy unfolded. He maintained that the family had no known personal vendettas, noting that his mother had been diligently saving money—including funds intended for home renovations—which were kept within the residence.
