Two Arrested in Dhaka for Fatal Stabbing of Mymensingh Auto Driver

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two suspects in connection with the fatal stabbing of 22-year-old auto-rickshaw driver Shiblu Mia, following a prolonged family dispute in Mymensingh. Acting on intelligence, a joint operation by RAB-14 and RAB-1 led to the apprehension of 45-year-old Abu Sayeed and his 20-year-old son, Md. Fahim, in the Turag area of Dhaka on Thursday morning.
The suspects, residents of Suheli village in the Ghagra Union of Mymensingh, had been in hiding since the incident occurred last year. The victim, a resident of the Dapunia Union, had married the daughter of Abu Sayeed, Mim Akhter, one year prior to his death. According to investigators, the marriage was strained by frequent domestic disputes, exacerbated by the bride’s family refusing to allow her to return to her husband’s home. The situation reached a breaking point when, following a physical altercation at his father-in-law’s residence, Shiblu verbally divorced his wife.
On the afternoon of October 17, as Shiblu sat in the North Dapunia Selfie Road area, he was ambushed by a group of attackers who fatally stabbed him before fleeing the scene. He was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by attending physicians.
Following the murder, the victim’s mother filed a formal complaint at the Mymensingh Kotwali Police Station on October 19. Major Mir Ishtiaq Amin, commander of the RAB-14 Mymensingh company, confirmed that the primary suspects have been taken into custody and subsequently handed over to local law enforcement for further legal proceedings.
