Prime Minister Tareque Rahman fulfills musical prodigy’s dream with personal meeting and gift

A fifth-grade student from Rangpur has realized a long-held dream after receiving a personal invitation to meet Prime Minister Tareque Rahman at the Cabinet Division office in Dhaka. Anushree Roy, a student at Purbo Nobinidas Government Primary School, was awarded first place in patriotic songs and third in Nazrul Geeti at the National Primary Education Medal-2026 competition. Her meeting with the Prime Minister, held on Thursday in the presence of her parents, concluded with the Prime Minister gifting her a harmonium to support her musical pursuits.
The meeting was facilitated by a letter Anushree had written during the medal award ceremony held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center on July 15. In her letter, delivered to the Prime Minister through an official, the young student expressed her deep passion for music, her financial inability to afford a harmonium, and her earnest desire to meet the Prime Minister. According to Deputy Press Secretary Sujauddoula, Prime Minister Rahman read the letter personally and subsequently directed his office to invite the student and her family for an audience.
Recounting the experience, Anushree expressed her disbelief that her request had reached the head of government. She shared that she had long relied on her father’s stories of the Prime Minister’s humanitarian work, which fostered her belief that he would listen to her plight. During the meeting, the Prime Minister spoke affectionately with the young artist, inquired about her training, and encouraged her to continue her musical practice with diligence. Anushree performed a patriotic song for the Prime Minister as a gesture of her appreciation.
Her father, visibly moved by the encounter, noted that the family never imagined such high-level attention for his daughter. He expressed profound gratitude, stating that the Prime Minister’s encouragement and the gift of the instrument have provided Anushree with the motivation to pursue her dream of becoming a professional musician.
On the same day, the Prime Minister also met with Tabiul Islam Rakib, a security guard working in the Kuril-Bishwaroad area of the capital. Rakib, a longtime admirer of the Prime Minister, had previously posted a video on social media expressing his desire to meet Mr. Rahman. During their conversation, Rakib took the opportunity to advocate for his home community in Bagerhat’s Morrelganj upazila. He briefed the Prime Minister on the urgent need for a bridge over the Panguchi River, noting that the absence of a proper crossing frequently leads to accidents and causes significant hardship for local residents.
