Police Arrest Five Banned Chhatra League Activists in Chittagong During Rally Preparation

CHITTAGONG – Police arrested five members of the banned student organization Chhatra League in Chittagong city on Friday while they were allegedly preparing for an unauthorized procession.
Authorities apprehended the individuals at the Prabartak intersection area during the afternoon. Officers recovered a banner from the group inscribed with the text, “Mourning Rally in Observance of August 15 Mourning Day,” which also bore the names of the Chittagong Metropolitan Chhatra League and Jubo League.
The suspects have been identified as Md. Miraj, Md. Mamun, Apu Das, Md. Jamshed, and Zahid Hasan.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panchlaish Police Station, Jahidul Islam, stated that law enforcement acted on intelligence regarding the gathering. Upon noticing the police presence, the suspects attempted to flee but were pursued and captured.
The individuals are currently in police custody, and a formal case has been filed against them at the local police station. Authorities are continuing efforts to identify and arrest other participants involved in the incident.
According to preliminary interrogation, the suspects revealed that the procession was being organized under the leadership of Jamshed. Investigators are now working to determine the origin of the program and identify the individuals or entities that directed the group to organize the demonstration.
