Islami Chhatrashibir Protests Alleged Campus Violence by Student Wing of BNP

Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir held a mass rally in Dhaka on Wednesday to demand the full implementation of the July Charter, justice for all recent acts of genocide, and an immediate cessation of violence by the Jatiya Party’s student wing, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD). The protest began at the Central Shaheed Minar and concluded with a brief gathering at the Raju Sculpture, with participants seen brandishing metal pipes as they moved through the city.
The demonstration served as a platform for prominent leaders of the Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing to criticize the political conduct of the BNP and its student faction. During the assembly, lawmaker Shafiqul Islam Masud issued a stern warning, suggesting that the current aggressive tactics employed by the JCD against other student groups mimic the patterns that led to the collapse of the Awami League. He urged the BNP leadership to restrain its student wing, warning that failing to do so could result in their own political downfall.
Addressing the crowd, Dhaka Metropolitan South Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Nurul Islam Bulbul accused the BNP and the JCD of attempting to occupy university campuses, a strategy he claimed mirrors the failed policies of the previous regime. He asserted that there is a broader conspiracy to undermine the aspirations of the July movement, insisting that the mandate provided by the recent national consensus must be prioritized to counter these efforts.
Calls for accountability extended to law enforcement as well. Central Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami, Rafiqul Islam Khan, demanded that police officers who allegedly colluded with attackers in various educational institutions be identified and arrested. He warned that inaction against these officers would confirm institutional complicity in the ongoing campus violence, advising political actors to abandon intimidation tactics to avoid the same fate as their predecessors.
Chhatrashibir Central President Nurul Islam Saddam presided over the rally, expressing frustration over the perceived slow pace of justice for victims of the July uprising. He criticized the current administration for failing to expedite the trial process, noting that few verdicts have been reached despite the gravity of the crimes committed. Saddam further vowed that if the JCD persists in attempting to re-establish “guest room” culture and dormitory control, the Chhatrashibir would launch a robust, countrywide resistance to ensure the safety and academic freedom of students across all campuses.
