Infant wounded in shooting at Coxs Bazar Rohingya camp as police detain father

An 11-month-old infant is receiving medical treatment after being struck by a bullet at the Kutupalong Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. The incident occurred Tuesday evening inside the camp’s E-6 block, leaving the child, identified as Mohammad Arman, in critical condition.
According to the 14th Armed Police Battalion (APBn), which oversees security at the camp, the infant’s father, Abdul Mubin, is being held in custody in connection with the shooting. Mubin, who is identified as a member of the Arakan Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO), initially claimed that members of the rival Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) targeted him, with the bullet striking his son instead.
However, APBn commander and Additional DIG Mohammad Sirajul Amin dismissed the father’s account as a fabrication intended to evade responsibility. Authorities stated that the shooting was the result of a negligent discharge. According to the investigation, Mubin was inside his residence when a round was accidentally fired from a firearm he was handling, striking the infant in the abdomen.
Following the shooting, local residents transported the injured child to the Kutupalong MSF hospital located within the camp premises. As of Wednesday afternoon, the infant remained under medical observation. APBn officials confirmed they have detained Mubin and are currently conducting an intensive search to recover the firearm involved in the incident.
