Islamic University Forms Committee to Investigate Allegations Against 44 Faculty Members

Islamic University authorities in Kushtia have formed a five-member committee to investigate allegations that 44 faculty members were involved in clandestine anti-state activities. The committee, tasked with submitting its findings by August 12, was formally announced on Wednesday evening following an office order signed by acting Registrar Professor Manzurul Haque.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor Emtaz Hossain has been appointed to lead the inquiry. The committee also includes Professor Mostafizur Rahman of the Department of Al-Hadith and Islamic Studies, Professor Rafiqul Islam of the Department of Arabic Language and Literature, and Supreme Court lawyer Sajjat Hossain. Israful Haque, deputy director of the Finance and Accounts Division, will serve as the committee’s member secretary.
The probe was initiated in response to recent media reports alleging that the identified faculty members participated in activities deemed detrimental to the state. Beyond investigating these claims, the committee is mandated to identify the individuals involved, determine appropriate institutional responses, and provide actionable recommendations.
Furthermore, the inquiry will examine whether these faculty members played a role in suppressing the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement or intimidating protesters during the previous administration’s tenure.
This development follows a period of administrative volatility at the university. During a syndicate meeting on October 30 of last year, disciplinary actions were initiated against 19 teachers, 11 staff members, and 33 students for their alleged opposition to the July mass uprising. The subsequent administration had later reversed those sanctions, opting to reinstate the suspended teachers and staff before the current investigation was launched.
