Tourist dies in swimming pool at Cox’s Bazar hotel

A 38-year-old tourist from Munshiganj died Tuesday afternoon while swimming at a five-star hotel in the Inani Beach area of Cox’s Bazar. Miraj Ahmed, who had been vacationing with his family, lost consciousness in the swimming pool at the Hotel Bay Watch before being pronounced dead at the hospital.
According to hotel management, Ahmed arrived in Cox’s Bazar on Monday for a two-day trip accompanied by his wife and children. While swimming at approximately 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, he suddenly collapsed in the pool. Hotel staff immediately intervened and transported him to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed he had passed away.
Ukhia Police Station officer-in-charge Atiqur Rahman Majumder stated that the primary investigation suggests Ahmed suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while in the water. Interviews with family members confirmed that the deceased had a pre-existing heart condition.
Authorities have filed a case of unnatural death regarding the incident. At the request of the family, police released the body for burial without performing an autopsy.
