Elderly man arrested for attempted rape of six-year-old child in Kurigram

Police in Kurigram’s Rajarhat upazila have arrested a 70-year-old man accused of attempting to rape a six-year-old child. The suspect, identified as Narayan Chandra, was taken into custody late Saturday night following an investigation into the incident.
According to local reports and police statements, the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon while the child was playing near her home. Chandra, who serves as the president of a local temple committee, allegedly lured the child into his home under the pretense of offering her sweets. Once inside, he reportedly attempted to sexually assault the victim.
The child managed to raise an alarm, and neighbors who heard her screams rushed to the scene. Sensing the arrival of the crowd, the suspect fled the property. The victim subsequently reported the encounter to her family, who alerted local community leaders before filing a formal case at the Rajarhat Police Station.
