Housing State Minister Warns Contractors of Blacklisting Over Project Delays and Corruption

State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahmed Sohel Manzur has issued a stern warning to contractors, declaring that any firm found engaging in irregularities or failing to meet project deadlines will be blacklisted. The directive came during a review meeting on project progress held at the National Housing Authority (NHA) headquarters in Dhaka on Tuesday.

To ensure transparency and accountability, the state minister announced a two-tier oversight mechanism. Moving forward, both internal NHA representatives and an independent third party will conduct rigorous inspections of ongoing construction sites. Addressing officials and employees, Manzur emphasized a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, urging staff to ensure that project execution remains beyond reproach.

The ministry, in a press statement, highlighted that the government is prioritizing the construction of 100,000 apartments specifically for low-income populations, a project valued at approximately 2,000 crore taka. Manzur stressed that this massive undertaking must be free from favoritism and unethical influence. He further instructed the NHA to ensure a fair, harassment-free environment for contractors to participate in bidding processes, explicitly forbidding any private or collusive meetings between officials and contractors.

The meeting, attended by Housing and Public Works Secretary Nazrul Islam and NHA Chairman Ferdousi Begum, served as a rallying call for institutional reform. Manzur urged all stakeholders to align with the government’s vision of a corruption-free nation by prioritizing quality workmanship and cost-efficiency. He reiterated that projects must be completed within the stipulated timeframes to effectively serve the public interest.
