Three students, including a journalist, were allegedly beaten up in Chittagong University. The incident took place at the railway crossing area of gate number 1 of the university yesterday at around 10:30 pm. A case has been registered in Chittagong’s Hathazari police station in connection with the beating. Police have arrested one person after the case.
The name of the victim journalist is Jahin Sarkar. He is working as representative of Chittagong University of Time TV. He is a third year student of the University’s Department of Communication and Journalism. Apart from this, he is in charge of science, research and information technology affairs secretary of Shaheed Farhad Hossain Hall. The other two injured students are post graduate students of communication and journalism department. Alimul Shamim and Ashiqur Islam, a third year student of the same department.

According to local sources and the victim students, 7 students of the Department of Communication and Journalism went to eat at a hotel in the railway crossing area of the university at around 10 pm yesterday. After eating, they boarded a bus to return to the university. However, two local people ordered the bus to stop after a short distance. At that time, they alleged that political slogans were given in the bus. The two residents had a discussion with seven students about this. At one stage, the two men started beating Jahin Sarkar when he took out his mobile phone and continued to make a video. His mobile phone was also confiscated. The assailants beat him and two other students accompanying him with sticks and injured him.
Jahin identified the two persons in this incident and filed a case against them at Hathazari Model Police Station at night. The two accused are Fatehpur Union Ward No. 5. Son of Yunus. Emon and resident of ward number 11 of the same union. Shafiq. In this incident, the main accused Md. Emon was arrested by the police.

Chittagong University medical center doctor Mohammad Abul Kashem said that Jahin Sarkar was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital due to serious injuries on his left hand. The remaining two injured students have been kept under observation with first aid.
Meanwhile, after this incident, around 12:30 in the night, representatives of Chaksu held an immediate protest program in the university roundabout. At this time, they demanded a fair trial of the incident. Besides, they demanded to ensure the safety of the students.
When asked, the vice chancellor of the university, Professor Mohammad Al-Forkan, said that he informed the police administration as soon as he heard about the incident. Also asked the police to arrest the accused within two hours. Necessary action is being taken in this incident.
Mubarak, Deputy Inspector of Hathajari Model Police Station, said that they have arrested the main accused in the incident. He was arrested from 11 mile area of Hathajari upazila. An operation is underway to nab the second accused.
