Police in the Dhamoirhat upazila of Naogaon arrested two brothers on Sunday on charges of physically assaulting their 65-year-old mother for refusing to sign over her property to them. The suspects, identified as 45-year-old Abdul Momin and 35-year-old Abdul Mukim, were remanded to judicial custody following their appearance in court later that afternoon.

The victim, Chand Sultana of Kharapara village, sought police intervention on Saturday after enduring prolonged abuse. According to the formal complaint filed with local authorities, the conflict over the elderly woman’s assets began following the death of her husband. Although the two sons had been living independently since their respective marriages, they reportedly subjected their mother to persistent verbal and physical abuse in an attempt to coerce her into transferring her land titles to them.

Local mediation efforts failed to curb the escalating violence, culminating in an incident where the brothers allegedly beat their mother and attempted to forcibly evict her from her own home. Driven by a lack of alternatives, the victim sought refuge at the local police station to report the abuse.

Naogaon Superintendent of Police Mohammad Tarikul Islam stated that officers, led by Dhamoirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mintu Rahman, were dispatched to the village to investigate the allegations. Upon interviewing local residents and confirming the veracity of the victim’s account, police took the suspects into custody. The brothers now face legal proceedings as the investigation continues.
