India’s newly appointed High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, is set to formally present his credentials to President Mohammed Shahabuddin at the Bangabhaban this Thursday. A source within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the schedule, marking the formal commencement of the diplomat’s tenure in Dhaka.

In preparation for the ceremony, Trivedi held a series of diplomatic meetings upon his arrival. On Saturday, he met with Chief of Protocol A.F.M. Zahidul Islam at his office, where the former Indian Railway Minister submitted a copy of his credentials. Following this protocol, the High Commissioner held a courtesy meeting with Foreign Secretary Jashim Uddin at the State Guest House Padma.

The appointment of Trivedi, announced by the Indian government in April, represents a significant shift in diplomatic tradition. As the 16th Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, he becomes the first career politician to hold the post, reflecting the high priority New Delhi places on its relationship with Dhaka.
