Dhaka police arrest 433 in citywide anti-crime crackdown

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 433 individuals during a series of coordinated operations across the capital over a 24-hour period ending Thursday at midnight. The sweep resulted in the filing of 27 separate criminal cases across various police stations in the city.

According to Niaz Mehedi, Additional Deputy Commissioner of the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, the enforcement actions were conducted in every precinct to address ongoing law and order concerns. The Mirpur division reported the highest number of apprehensions with 122 arrests, followed by the Motijheel division with 96 detainees. Other regions recorded significant activity as well, with 49 individuals arrested in Uttara, 38 in Tejgaon, 38 in Gulshan, 36 in Wari, 27 in Ramna, and 24 in Lalbagh. The Detective Branch contributed to the effort by taking three additional suspects into custody.

During the searches, officers seized a substantial quantity of illicit substances, including 24.1 kilograms of cannabis and 940 yaba pills. Law enforcement also recovered various items linked to criminal activity, including 30 mobile phones, three knives, an electric shock device, three abandoned bullets, and two vehicles—a car and a motorcycle. The DMP has indicated that the investigation into these cases remains ongoing.
