Authorities have collected DNA samples from a newborn baby at the center of a high-profile child abuse case in Netrokona’s Madan upazila, where an 11-year-old girl was impregnated. The sample collection, conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police, follows previous DNA testing of the accused religious school teacher, who remains in custody.

The investigation into the incident began after the victim’s mother discovered her daughter was pregnant in mid-April. According to court records, the girl had been living with her grandparents while studying at a local women’s Qaumi madrasa established by the accused four years ago. The child’s mother, who worked as a domestic helper in Sylhet, sought medical attention after noticing physical changes in her daughter. On April 18, medical examinations at a clinic in Madan confirmed the pregnancy.

The child’s mother filed a formal complaint on April 23, leading to the arrest of the teacher by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Gouripur, Mymensingh, on May 6. Following a three-day remand, the court ordered DNA testing to substantiate the allegations. To ensure the victim’s safety, the court directed that she be transferred to a government-run safe home in Sylhet on May 12, where she gave birth to a daughter on July 2.

The investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Md. Aktaruzzaman of Madan Police Station, confirmed that CID inspectors collected the newborn’s DNA directly from the Sylhet facility to avoid the complications of transporting the infant to Dhaka. The samples have now been submitted to the CID laboratory for forensic analysis.

Officials stated that the legal proceedings will advance once the laboratory results are finalized. The accused is currently incarcerated, and the Netrokona court has scheduled the next hearing for the case on August 24.
