Police recover decomposed body of elderly woman from Dhaka residence

Police in Dhaka recovered the decomposed body of 75-year-old Noorjahan Begum from a vacant apartment in the Mirpur-11 area on Sunday after receiving an emergency distress call. The state of the remains, which had begun to decompose and were infested with insects, left authorities unable to immediately determine the exact time or cause of death.

The body has been sent for an autopsy, with investigators awaiting the medical examiner’s report to clarify the circumstances surrounding her death. Local residents alerted the authorities after noticing a foul odor emanating from the residence, describing the apartment as abandoned, unsanitary, and in a state of disarray.

According to Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Nasir of Pallabi Police Station, the apartment belonged to the victim’s daughter, where Noorjahan Begum had been living in isolation. The investigation has revealed that the victim’s family holds high-profile professional positions; her sons include a joint secretary to the government and a faculty member at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), while her son-in-law is also a university professor.
