Rajshahi BNP Leader Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum to Authorities Following Bomb Attack on Home

A political confrontation has intensified in Rajshahi’s Bagmara upazila after local BNP leaders issued an ultimatum to administration officials following a targeted attack on the residence of Bhabaniganj municipality BNP president Abdur Razzak Pramanik.

The incident occurred Friday night in the Chanpara area, where assailants reportedly detonated cocktails and fired gunshots at the former mayor’s home. While no injuries were reported, police recovered three unexploded cocktails at the scene. Bagmara police station officer-in-charge Zillur Rahman confirmed that evidence of a detonation was found and that legal proceedings are currently underway.

In response, local BNP activists staged a protest march and rally on Saturday, culminating in a demonstration at Godown intersection. During the rally, Bagmara upazila BNP convener D.M. Ziaur Rahman condemned the attack, characterizing it as part of a broader campaign of violence by political opponents.

Ziaur Rahman directed sharp criticism toward the local administration, specifically targeting the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO). He accused the official of failing to visit the site or make immediate arrests. During his address, the BNP leader issued a 48-hour deadline for the apprehension of the perpetrators, threatening that if law enforcement failed to act, his party would take matters into their own hands and hold both the attackers and the local administration accountable.

Addressing the accusations, UNO Selim Ahmed stated that he had dispatched police to the scene immediately upon being notified of the attack and that an investigation to identify the culprits is ongoing. He declined to comment on the direct threats made against him by the local BNP leadership.
