Actor Tariquzzaman Tapan Dies

Veteran Bangladeshi actor Tarikuzzaman Tapon, a familiar face across film and television, died Friday evening at his Dhaka residence following a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 60.

Rashed Mamunur Rahman Opu, General Secretary of the Actors’ Equity (Obhinoy Shilpi Shongho), confirmed his passing, stating that Tapon breathed his last around 8 p.m. at his home in Aftabnagar. The actor’s health had deteriorated significantly in recent days, leading to an ICU admission. He was brought home on Friday afternoon after doctors informed the family that further medical intervention was no longer an option.

Tapon is survived by his wife, two daughters, and one son.

Funeral prayers (Janaza) were scheduled for Friday night at the Porshinagar Jame Mosque in Aftabnagar. His body will then be transported to Tangail’s Dhanbari Upazila for burial in the family graveyard.

Throughout his career, Tapon left a distinct mark on both the big screen and television. His notable film credits include ‘Alta Banu,’ ‘Thikana,’ and ‘Ja Chilo Ondhokare.’ On television, he was widely recognized for his roles in dramas such as ‘Jora Shalik,’ ‘Hatchhani,’ ‘Olpe Golpe,’ and ‘Mrittikar Jatra.’
