Allegation of attack on journalist by entering UNO office against BNP leader

In Kshetlal upazila of Joypurhat, an allegation has been made against upazila BNP General Secretary Siddiqur Rahman for assaulting and beating up a journalist. The victim journalist Amanullah Aman has alleged that this incident took place inside the office of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) on Tuesday afternoon.
Amanullah Aman is the local correspondent of Kalbela newspaper. Regarding the incident, he said, “The upazila executive officer called some journalists for advertisement-related matters. We were present at the UNO office. Suddenly 10-12 people led by Siddiqur Rahman attacked and beat me. During the incident, UNO went to the next room. Later the attackers took position with batons down. Later the police came and controlled the situation.
Journalist Amanullah complained that he published a news against BNP leader Siddiqur Rahman regarding the sale of soil and sand on government pond lease. BNP leader Siddiqui was angry at this incident.
However, upazila BNP General Secretary Siddiqur Rahman denied the allegations and said, “The allegations against me are completely false and baseless.” There was no incident of assault or beating at the UNO office. This is an attempt to denigrate me politically.’
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sanjida Chowdhury’s mobile phone was called several times for a statement on the matter, but she did not receive it.
Officer-in-charge of Kshetlal police station Moktadul Alam said that the police went to the spot and brought the situation under control. Legal action will be taken subject to investigation if complaints are received.
