Young Bangladeshi Scouts March to Manikganj for Rover Scouts Highest Honor

Two Rover Scout teams have embarked on a five-day, 150-kilometer trek on foot, aiming to achieve the highest Scout honor, the President’s Rover Scout (PRS) Award. The journey commenced Tuesday morning from the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Gazipur, heading towards Manikganj.
Organizers stated the expedition, beginning in Gazipur, will traverse Fulbaria and Mirzapur before concluding in Shibchar, Manikganj. Along their route, the Scout members are scheduled to visit various government and non-government institutions, colleges, and significant landmarks, with overnight stays planned at designated locations, including dak bungalows.
The program was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Md. Sohel Rana, who delivered an inspirational address. He lauded the young participants’ initiative, emphasizing the critical role such activities play in fostering physical and mental resilience.
The participating teams include the Mouachak Mukta Scout Group and the Manikganj Government College Rover Group. Among the participants are team leaders Afrik Ahammed, Saiful Islam, Al Saniyat Islam, Girl-in Rover Scout team leader Kobita Akter, and members Nusrat Jahan Niha and Marina Sultana.
Nazmul Hossain, team leader of the Mouachak Mukta Scout Group, explained that earning the “Expedition Badge” is a crucial requirement for the highest Rover Scout recognition, necessitating the completion of 150 kilometers on foot within a specified timeframe. However, he added, their expedition transcends mere badge acquisition, serving as a testament to physical capability, perseverance, and team unity.
During their trek, the Scout members will also engage in various awareness campaigns. They aim to educate the public on discarding plastic, preventing air pollution, combating drug abuse, dengue prevention, and maintaining clean home surroundings. Additionally, they will disseminate vital social messages, including the prevention of child marriage.
The participating Scout members expressed their strong desire to successfully complete this program, attain the President’s Rover Scout Award, and contribute to positive societal change.
The inaugural event was also attended by Md. Shahabuddin, President of the Mouachak Mukta Scout Group, Mir Md. Faruk, Shariful Islam, female Rover Scout leader Masuda Akter, Secretary Julhas Ahmed, and District Rover Scout Leader Md. Shamim Ahmed.
The Scout activity of covering 150 kilometers on foot is termed “rambling” or “expedition” and is a mandatory step towards earning the President’s Rover Scout Award. Alternatively, to qualify for the award, Rovers have the option of completing 300 kilometers by watercraft or 500 kilometers by bicycle.
