Fox attacks leave 15 injured in Narayanganj villages

A series of fox attacks in the Sonargaon sub-district of Narayanganj left at least 15 people injured on Wednesday, sparking widespread alarm across three rural villages. The assaults occurred throughout the afternoon and evening in Sonarkandi, Bhaterkandi, and Nayapara, targeting residents ranging from young children to the elderly.
Among those treated for bite wounds were local residents including Delwar Hossain, Litan, Faisal, and a young boy named Abdullah. The victims also included the imam of the Bhaterkandi Jame Mosque, a local elderly woman, and a resident identified as Golzar Hossain from Nayapara. Villagers rushed the injured to the Sonargaon Upazila Health Complex for emergency medical attention.
Eyewitnesses reported that the foxes entered residential courtyards and public roadways, attacking people without provocation. Victims described a chaotic scene as the animals moved rapidly between targets, fueling panic throughout the community. Delwar Hossain, one of the injured, recounted that he was standing in front of his home when a fox suddenly bit his leg and fled. Litan, another victim, noted that the animals were aggressive, jumping from one person to the next and forcing residents to scramble for safety.
Dr. Sumaiya Yakub, the Sonargaon Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, confirmed that all 15 victims were administered necessary treatment, including essential rabies vaccinations. She acknowledged a recent uptick in fox sightings and attacks in the region and confirmed that local authorities have been notified. The Upazila Executive Officer has been informed, and officials are coordinating with wildlife authorities to implement measures to secure the area and prevent further incidents.
