Dhaka housewife found dead in suspected burglary homicide

Police in the capital’s Dakshinkhan area recovered the body of a 42-year-old woman, identified as Roksana, also known as Pinu, from her residence in the Faydabad neighborhood on Thursday afternoon. Investigators suspect the victim was strangled to death during a suspected robbery.
The victim lived with her husband and two daughters on the second floor of a six-story building in the Jamtoli area. Her husband, Sohel Rana, who is employed at a private firm, had left for work in the morning. According to police reports, the couple’s 10-year-old daughter returned home from school at approximately 3:00 p.m. to find the apartment door ajar and her mother lying unconscious on the bedroom floor. After failing to elicit a response, the child alerted her teacher, who subsequently contacted her father.
Upon arriving at the scene, the husband discovered his wife dead. Officers from the Dakshinkhan Police Station responded to the site, and the body was later transported to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
Mirza Tareq Ahmed Beg, Deputy Commissioner of the Uttara Division of Police, led an inspection of the crime scene. He stated that the murder likely occurred between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., while the victim’s children were at school. Preliminary investigations suggest that the perpetrator may have gained entry to the home by cutting through a security grill. Reports indicate that gold jewelry is missing from the apartment.
Authorities have detained the victim’s husband for questioning, noting that his initial statements regarding the incident have raised suspicions among investigators.
