Security forces seize 11,200 methamphetamine pills concealed in speaker in Teknaf

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local police seized 11,200 methamphetamine pills, locally known as yaba, hidden inside a Bluetooth speaker during a raid on a courier service office in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf on Thursday. The confiscated narcotics have an estimated street value of 3.36 million taka.
The operation took place around 11:45 a.m. at the Steadfast Courier Service office in the Islamabad area of Teknaf municipality. Acting on a tip-off that a parcel contained illicit substances, security forces inspected the premises. Upon dismantling a Bluetooth speaker stored at the facility, officers discovered six packages wrapped in black adhesive tape containing the pills.
Investigations reveal that the parcel had originally arrived in Teknaf from Narayanganj. According to law enforcement, a suspect attempted to return the package to Narayanganj on Thursday morning, claiming the contents were incorrect. The individual fled the scene immediately upon noticing the presence of security forces.
Authorities have identified the suspect as Md. Jamal, a resident of Noyapara in the Sabrang Union of Teknaf. A case has been filed against him at the Teknaf Model Police Station, and the seized items have been turned over to the police for evidence. Efforts to apprehend Jamal are currently underway.
Lieutenant Colonel Md. Hanifur Rahman Bhuiyan, commander of the BGB Teknaf-2 Battalion, stated that traffickers are increasingly using sophisticated concealment methods to smuggle narcotics from Myanmar through Teknaf to various parts of the country. He reaffirmed that the BGB remains committed to intensifying intelligence surveillance and operational efforts to curb cross-border criminal activities.
