Three Arrested Following Attempted Rape on Moving Bus in Savar

Authorities in Savar have arrested three men following an attempted rape of a passenger on a moving bus late Saturday night. Police intervened after receiving an emergency alert, setting up a roadblock in the Baraipara area of Ashulia to intercept the vehicle and rescue the victim.

The incident began around 1:30 a.m. when the woman boarded a Savar Paribahan bus at Gabtoli, bound for Nabinagar. According to Ashulia police, the bus driver, identified as 35-year-old Md. Imran, orchestrated a scheme mid-journey. Imran reportedly handed the steering wheel over to his assistant, Md. Mushfekur Rahman, 20, before confronting the woman’s male companion. After physically assaulting the man and threatening him with death, the suspects forced him off the bus. Imran subsequently exited the vehicle, leaving the woman alone with the driver’s assistant and an acquaintance, 30-year-old Md. Suman Pramanik.

Police investigations indicate that while the bus remained in motion, Mushfekur and Suman attempted to sexually assault the woman. The victim’s companion, having been stranded on the roadside, contacted the national emergency service hotline 999 to report the abduction. Acting on the information, Ashulia police deployed a blockade at the Baraipara bus stand, effectively halting the bus and taking Mushfekur and Suman into custody.

The victim was recovered safely from the vehicle. She filed a formal case later that night under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Following the initial arrests, a police operation led to the apprehension of the driver, Imran, on Sunday afternoon in the Baraipara area.

Mohammad Tarikul Islam, officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station, confirmed that all three suspects—Imran, Mushfekur, and Suman—remain in custody and are facing charges under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
